Stereo Location and Type?
Hi all--
I have it on good authority that Santa is going to bring me a new stereo for my 66 GT. Presenetly, the stereo is in the glove box and a non functioning AM is in the dash. Any other places that I could put the head unit? Mostly, I just use it to play my iPod.
What is a good, low-end type that you advise? I have a Sony now and I'm feeling so-so about it. I've seen a few Blaupunkts and Alpines that I like.
So, let's hear how you got modern stereo tunes in your vintage iron.
Thanks!

I would stick with the glove box setup, and get a head unit with a remote. My buddy has a 65 GT vert with that setup and the remote works through the closed glove box door. Not sure of the brand or model, but I'm sure it's nothing exotic.
Since he hasn't posted on this yet...........Mber has a Blaupunkt MP3/CD player installed in his glovebox. It has a detachable face which he made a patch cable for so that he could have the face within reach on the console. It's a pretty slick set up and you don't have to open the glove box door to change stations or CD tracks.

I just cut the dash and installed a Pioneer CD/head unit and 4 speakers (2 kick panel, 2 package tray). My stereo is loud enough for me to hear over my exhaust while not trying to be the club dj for the nearest 100 cars to me.
Yes, I copied the guy you mentioned. I don't have his link either, but you basically start with a removable faceplate stereo, and solder a cable to the two sets of contacts, making a wired remote. Note: I did have to put a switch to electrically disconnect the faceplate so I could eject CDs.
Remote is now on a velcro bracket under the AC. I can quickly hide it under the dash if I have any Proctologists inspecting the car.

Just another fine example of how easily I wore out my welcome at that other site I guess. :notnice:
I'm just glad I can still contribute to the hobby somewhere.
