Question

My 66 Mustangs Sad story.

Bare with me I'm not a writer by any stretch of the imagination.

October 13th I was on my way to a friend’s house to do some car work. I figured I would stop at the local hardware store and pick something up on the way. I pull out of my space and drive down the road and WHAM I get side swiped by a SUV. Takes out my rear Quarter panel. The car is messed up. Luckily the guy who hits me has insurance and it will be fixed RIGHT!

3 days later I drop my car off at the shop I had it painted in before. Keep in mind the paint is only one year old on the car. The shop manger insures it will be started on right away. A couples of weeks go by and I drop by the shop to see how it's going. The car is still sitting in the same spot. The insurance company will not pay to get the quarter replaced. They say "Bondo it".

After a month fight with the insurance company they finally foot the bill for the quarter and work begins on my car. Again I give it about 2 weeks and again stop by the shop. What did I find the car is now 2 colors? The quarter they replaced looks good however, the paint doesn't even come close to matching.

The shop manger painted the car 3 times and could not get the paint to match. The paint code is correct why won't it match? They can't get it to fade in. So the shop comes to the conclusion they need to just repaint the whole car. This went really well with the insurance company. After a month of this the shop decides to eat the cost of the rest of the car being painted. So work begins. Again!

2 months of the car being striped sanded and repainted pass. It finally gets finished and I pick my car up and SHE is BEATIFUL. A fresh new paint shop and it's now SPING. Car show time but this is not the end of the tale.

After sporting my fine newly painted ride for about a month I noticed something happening with the quarter they fixed. It starting to blister and peel. :bang:

The car goes back to the shop and the shop owner now gets involved he apologias for what happens and they begin work on her right away. Well that what he says. I drop by after my standard two weeks and the shop is closed and disserted. WHERE IS MY CAR! I was losing my mind my car is gone.

It takes me two days of calling to find the owner and he tells me that the shop is closed and they will finish my car as soon as they can. At least the car wasn't stolen. After a week passes and sleepless nights I get a call at work. It's the owner and he says come get it. He says the keys are in it and hangs up. At this point I'm really worried now. I have a friend drive me up there and the car is sitting outside.

As I drive closer things don't look good the car is now 2 different colors AGAIN. At this point I blew a gasket. There was no one there to yell at so I drive the car home cause I didn't want to leave it sitting with the keys inside.

For the next two days I call the owner over and over leaving messages that the car was not right. After not being able to reach him after 2 days I call him one more time with the intensions of getting the cops involved. Luckily he answers and tells me to bring the car back in and they will fix it. So I drop the car back at the shop and after two more weeks I get a call saying the car is ready to be picked up.

My friend drove me to the shop and the car is sitting out side. SHE is polished up and looks great they finally got it right. I get to take my baby home at last. I have been without my car since October last year all because some A hole in a SUV was not paying attention. Oh well such as life.

At least she has a fresh paint job as long as the paint holds up It's going to have too the shop is closed down so no warranty with this one.

That’s why I usually do all my car work myself I wish I had a paint shop .

Sorry to hear about the troubles. It's people like that shop that give the industry a bad name...unfortunately the majority of shops are like that. I own a shop that does paint and body restorations and neither I or the painter would even think of letting a customer pick up a car that didn't match! People turning out work like that irritates me to no end.

At least you have it back now.

Yeah there are some good people and shops out there that do good paint in bodywork finding one is the hard part. The reason my car got messed up was because they fired the guy who originally painted my car. He was awesome. The person they replaced him with just couldn't get it right.

I feel it's a art form I know how to do body work but I'm not experienced enough to make it look good. That’s why I paid a so-called professional to do it.
