Rusty tank
Rusty tank
Not sure why my mustang won't start it starts for 10 seconds and starts to die if I don't hold the gas down could the reason be cuz the fuel tank is rusty and the gas is mixed with rust? I have a filter before the fuel pump which people say not to do but that the only way I can stop the rust from clogging the inline filter on the carb and clogging the jets.
If it starts but won't idle, I'd start by adjusting your idle fuel mixture. There should be a couple screws on the carb that determine how much gas it gets at idle.
And if you have that big of a rust issue, I'd definitely look into a new tank, and possibly a new line while you're at it.

Who said that fuel filter was a bad idea? Iv had one on my car senses i put it on and haven't had a problem. I used the clear ones and if you could see all the crap its kept from getting in the carb And engine anyways when was the last time that filter was changed? And like above have you adjusted it at all? What about the timing? Or even a tune up?

Same thing happened with my filter but it seems to have worked it self out. When was your carb rebuilt? And has the weather change a lot?
