Purchasing 69 Mustang Mach 1

I am on the verge of purchasing this vehicle.

What do I need to ask for ie. paperwork, etc?

From: Florida again!
Congratulations on your find!
First of all, have you already looked the vehicle over and checked the 'problem' areas of the breed (such as floor pans) ? Then there are the basics- looking for leaks, rust, cracks, and then how it runs and drives.
As far as purchasing the vehicle- that will be dependent on your location's legal requirements. For instance in GA, for a car older than 20-25 years, all that is needed is a Bill of sale. Otherwise, the current owner who is in possession of car's title must sign it. For you to take possession, you should call an insurance company and also arrange a plan for it. After you have received the signed title, bill of sale, proof of insurance, and your ID, then you can bring that to your local DMV and they will issue you a new title, registration, and plate(s). This is just general information. I recommend you look up your particular state's, county's, etc, policy on registering a vehicle.
Then again what did you mean by "paperwork"? Making sure the car's history is 'documented'?

Depending on what kind of Mach it is you may want to consider a few options:
1) If it is a daily driver AT A VERY MINIMUM have a certified mechanic check the car out.
2) If it is a show car/garage queen call the local MCA chapter and ask for a recommendation for someone to check the car out for you. Someone there may be willing to do it. If not they'll definitely be able to point you to a pro. Professional mustang shops will normally do this for a fee (I wouldn't spend more than $500 max). They have all the VIN codes memorized and know where the car should be stamped.
I was going to buy a very nice 65 k-code convertible about 7 years ago when I hired someone to inspect the car. When the inspector showed up to talk to the dealer selling the car, the car "just got sold," out from under me. Since the inspector was a good guy and really didn't get to inspect anything he didn't charge me. The funny thing is that car has been on e-bay several times for over $125k. The selling party won't answer any of my e-mails...lol.

Other notes:
I personally would rather have a title if it is available. Otherwise you could be getting a salvaged car. Given the problems in recent years in the gulf coast w/ hurricanes, this is all too common.
If the car is restored, any pictures or receipts can tell you about how detailed the restoration was.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

From: Upstate New York...BBRRRR.
The only other recommendation I have would be to
get a basic Marti Report.

That is one step in the right direction to make certain
it is a mach and not a mach clone/tribute.

A Marti Report will also help you know how this car
left the factory and you can see the upgrades that
a restoration may have added.

Good Luck!
