Hey all,
Any one here have a carb restored by pony carburetors? I was thinking about having my Autolite 4100 restored by them! Or should I just go buy a Holley 570cfm
Avenger carb? I have another question about rear leaf springs, I want my car to sit level so what springs should I go with? Should an OEM style spring do the trick or do I need beefy springs? What rate should I get to make it sit level with a full tank of gas! 1965 Fastback 289 4v 4-Speed with duals, Oh yeah, what gears are good for my car? Its a one leg 8" rear, will I notice any change staying with the 8" rear, but just changing the gears. My car is not a built car, just looking for a little more power!

Stick with a 4100, by all means.

I have had three carbs rebuilt by Pony in the 20 or so years I've had mustangs. The first one was excellently done. The second was not as good and the third had to go back to them. To their credit, they made it right, but my car was down twice as long as it should have been.

The last carb I had done was completed was by a guy in Georgia. He had it back to me in 4 days, wet tested and set, and charged me 1/2 of what Pony did. He'll get all of my business from now on.

Others have had better luck with Pony, but just because they've been on top for ever doesn't mean they are still the best in the biz. I haven't used them since they went to AZ.

Just my experiences. YMMV.

I've used them once - about 7-8 years ago. The carb looked and ran nice, but was pretty expensive for what you got... I never could get the idle as smooth as I wanted, part of which was due to the E303 cam, which tends to have "problems" playing nice on carb'd motors.

For springs - stock height 4 leaf. You can always add small lowering blocks to drop the rear slightly, but there's no really good way to raise one that's too low.

Rear gears depend on transmission used. 3.25s work fairly well on non-overdrive automatic cars. If you NEVER drive on the highway, 3.70ish will really wake one up, but you'll turn 3500+ rpm at highway speeds. Of course, an overdrive transmission helps out with that problem... B)
