original engine or rebuilt option

original engine or rebuilt option
I own a 1968 with a 302. The original engine needs rebuilding. I can purchase a 1968 rebuild and use my original as a core.
Any advice about switching? Does it hurt the value? One friend of mine seems troubled that I would switch.
The rebuilder's shop blue prints their engines and brings everything back to factory specs, plus makes room for a better rear main seal.

Not sure. I can't seem to recall any Ford beyond a Shelby or other such super-rarity item having a value issue with a replacement block. An 'EveryMustang' block swap shouldn't hurt the value one bit... but I'm no expert.
To hedge that bet, you can keep the block, pay the core, and then if the owner's particular, sell them the block to go with the car, profit.
/I bet that guy is a Chevy guy, isn't he? They worry about such things, I hear.
