New horse to the stable

Going pick her up tommorow, The van in back ground is part of deal. Has 302 in it that runs.

1966 Mustang Coupe - I6(long gone)

Already have lined up new windshield, fenders, rear quarter panels, Driverside floor pan, and various other body panels from a good friend who gave up restoring a coupe to do a fastback.

Gonna need LOTS of TLC, but this thing will be an adventure!!!

Now THAT is a project, have fun with her! I love the running donor car idea - you get to pull whatever you need off of it.

Yeah, I am looking at parts now for the 5 lug conversion, Granada front end conversion and explorer 8.8 with axle mod is the route i am gonna go. That will give me disk brakes all the way around with 5 lug, Then i can use my OEM 2011 Mustang GT 19inch premium wheels on it.

Cleaned it out somewhat, ran out of daylight. Gonna need most floor pans, and seat pedistol. removed about 40lbs of dirt/junk/glass and spare parts from interior.

I need to figure out how to open the trunk, the key cylinder is drilled out.

This weekends plans is to finish cleaning, take wheels off and remove brakes so it will roll.

Within the next month, I should be getting it to the media blaster.

Parts I will be aquiring from a friend, All glass, one rear quarter panel, few random floor pans, doors and/or skins(he isnt sure which one he has).

Also getting a 1999 Mustang rear end from him from a GT. If my friend and I calculated it right, i should be able to bolt my 2011 premuim 19s and it should fit tucked in nicely. If not, its free so... yeah... Ill update this thread as progress goes along. I am documenting everything.

Same here, cant wait to really tear into it.

I am thinking of ordering a replacement floor with seat pedistals instead of patching it. Have not decided yet. I will also need the replace the lower Cowl pan and passenger lower cowl shield. once that is done structure of car will be 100 percent, then its off to body work.

I'd save up and buy the floor in one piece. It will make it so much easier on you. I did the individual pieces and it is just so much more work. Cut it all out and spot weld on the rocker panels. If I could go back, that's what I'd do.

Update :

Tore it down today. Striped all the insulation off the floors, roof. Got in the trunk, Bobed and weaved the wasp.

I pressure washed all the car and took note of the damage. I am compiling a list of thing to fix on the main body right now in excel format. With the parts i am getting from my friend, i should be in the 1100 dollar range of body panels and a WHOLE lot of welding!!!! I am gonna bite the bullet and just order a Full floor kit from Mustang Unlimited.

I decided to do the car in stages.

Stage 1: Body Rust repair and Panel Replacement
Stage 2: Engine Bay - Mustang 2 front suspension installation, Get rid of shock towers to make room for the 4.6l.
Stage 3: To be Determined

Ha! You sound like me. I've got my car planned out in excel in 5 phases, with every step sorted in order. I also laid out expected cost and time next to actual cost and time once I complete. It's project management 101.

Luckily all my wasps were already dead when I got my car...still can't post photos from the app, but I had nests in both rear fender end caps.

It was luckily cold, so they were kind of dormat. I found them after i was using a dead blow hammer to take drums off the front of the car. I guess a 5lb dead blow banging away will wake them up.. **** wasp.. they are all dead and gone now!!.

Still shaping up my excel file, Stage one is rust repair, and looks like ill need ~ 1500 in prestamped panels to replace the entire floor, cowl repair, and both quarter panels. Ill know for sure after tommorow when i get the free parts from my friend.

Update: Got a 8.8 inch rear end, got new perchs on order and using the ford explorer plates and modify them for the shocks. Rear end dimensions fit perfect for my 2011 gt premium rims in the test fit.

Once thats in, ill have a full rolling chassis!!
December 13 is the appointment for media blasting, then she will be at my house instead of Dads auto shop. Then the body repair shall begin. I think though, ill remove the upper cowl before blasting to get the underside of the lower cowl clean for repair.
