I was hoping you guys could maybe give me some insight on a question I had about floor pan replacement.

I was looking at some websites for floor pan replacement peices and I saw that a company sells a one peice floor pan that basically replaces the entire floor in one shot. After reading some of your posts, I was wondering if this would be a better way to go, as I would think it would make the frame more rigid than if the floor was just patched with replacement pans.

I know it would probably cost a heck of alot more, but I figure that if I'm going to gut the car anyway, I might as well start with the best base that I can.

Or am I completely off base with this?

Thanks for the help! I'm trying to plan this out the best I can before diving head first into a big project like this.

I am also doing a full restoration...We are using a complete floor pan as well (best way to go). The pan cost 500.00 (it was a small sale) and it should arrive next week. We got it from laurel mountain in pennsylvania. Somebody had done a floor pan job on an earlier attempt and botched it up pretty good but that was for the 4 and not the 1.

Are you having someone do the welding for you, or are you doing the welding? If you are getting someone to do it for you, can I ask how much they are charging?

I have a shop doing the work....I will let you know how much it costs for the floorpan...The sheetmetal should be in by the middle of next week so they should start working on it sometime by the end of the week or the week of the 12th. They itemize things so I'm not sure if that will come out by itself or not... I have about 6000.00 in sheetmetal so far, engine rebuild/upgrade was about 4000.00. Rear end was upgraded to a posi 3.50 or is it 3.55? and I changed it out from an auto to a 4 speed toploader tranny. So far about 18,000.00 in the whole thing and they haven't started to put things together but there isn't a whole lot left to purchase so it should be all labor (except paint)..

Hey, I'd really appreciate any pricing that you can give me on the sheet metal work....I'm trying to get a budget together here and I'm looking for any info I can get.

I'm looking at buying a 1970 Mach that is SUPPOSED to have very little rust (I haven't gotten to get "up close and personal" with it yet), but I'm just going to assume the worst so I won't be suprised.

I'm not looking to make this a show car, but I want to make sure it is as solid as possible.

Thanks again!

Paul, you are wise to expect the worst.

ALthough you could get lucky, most any 60's or 70's Mustang where they state there's "very little rust" should usually have the phrase "that can be seen" tacked on.

These beloved older Fords are famous for being well eaten up in all kinds of impossible-to-see places.

With that said, I hope you are one of the lucky ones!

I chuckled at this....at first. But after reading about some other peoples resto's here and on other sites, it really kinda sank in!

Actually, I'm getting luckier by the day....Not only did we just get a new house with a HUGE 2 car garage to store and work on my future "little" project, but I've got my wife on board with the project as well!

Things will be ALOT easier with my better half excited about this project as well!

One more thing....The Mach that I was looking at fell through and I was wondering if anyone knew where there is a good place to hunt down a project car? I've been looking in some auto trader mags, ebay and just keeping my ear to the ground, but I'm just wondering if I'm missing an untapped resource?

BTW, I live in Langhorne, Pa...about 30 min north of Philly...

Thanks!
