I will be( my friend and i) in the process of rebuilding a '69Mach1 this coming spring.....it's an automatic with a 351 Windsor in it....it's pretty much stock and has low mileage.....
I know so much about vintage 'Stangs. I come from the newer school of 'Stangs like my '88 LX 5.0, but i'm wondering what to do with the car exactly.....i dont mind if the VIN doesn't exactly match what i intend to do with the car.....
This is what i would like to do with the car....
1) it has to be a 4 speed Hurst
2)i want a shaker hood ( i know this was an option)
3)no spoiler, no louvers ( i like the clean lines without it)
4)would like to go with Magnum500 wheels
5) also i want to get a bit more out of the motor, in the ball park of 350HP, what exactly should i do......is the 1970 351cleveland a better choice, since it has a 4 bolt main.....any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated...

I think you can get 350HP out of the 351 Cleveland without problems, who needs the extra wieght of the 428 ?
Have fun with your project, and take your time !

And there is also the option of a "stoker" 351 Windsor . . . .

Great choice on the '69 Mustang!!

350 out of a W is about as hard as......falling No need for the C here, if that is your goal.

All your other idears are fine, but Id look into putting a 5-speed into it, if you are going to go to a manual trans anyway. The T-5/Tremec swap is well-sorted and makes the car so much more refined on the road...if you plan to actually *drive* this car, that is B)

Heck a moderately built 302 will wheeze out 350 ponies, rebuild that bottom end and save the bucks you'd spend an a cleveland and top that 351 off with a nice dual plane like the Edelbrock Air-Gap and get some sweet heads like a set of AFR 165 or 185's

To answer the question exactly, nobody! Not a single person really, truly NEEDS it, however, almost everyone want's it.

This is what i was wondering, should i put a newer trans in it or stick with the 4 speed Hurst.....my friend has a Shelby GT350 with a 289HiPo and 3.50 gears.....he says it's fine with him as long as you don't drive too fast......i will have to see if i can find someone with a T-5 in a '69 Mach1...so far i've only heard of original auto and 5 speed trans.....

400hp 351W, T5Z 5-speed and 3.50 gears - lots of fun, good driving, and easy to do.

With the smaller, lighter 65 body, I run a 320hp 5.0, T5, and 3.25 gears.
