Modern trans

My 69 coupe has an 302 engine, with the original C4
I want to put one modern but at a reeasonable price, would one taken out of a 96, 4.6l work?
Which could work?

Just google search Ford AOD. Just a quick search. B&M $1600. Speedway $2100.
Stock replacement reman units are probably a bit cheaper. Google up man.
