Looking for advice/realistic budget

Greetings.

I've never owned a classic car but I'm interested in getting a 65-67 fastback. I've messed around with bolt-ons with my S197 but I've never done any serious work on a car, so I want something that runs but it doesn't need to be "show quality" by ANY means. I want to spend around $15k for a V8 with a manual.

Is that even do-able? Where should I look? If not, how much do I need to spend to get a decent driver?

I live in Dallas if that matters.

I like fleebay and craigslist. Shipping a car is fairly inexpensive and flying out to see one isnt to bad either.

NP! Ebay is nice it that you can filter price point, distance from zip code as well as many other options. 8 cyl, 6 cyl, stick, auto...

Lets us know what you find so we can give you our 2 cents on it.

The catch in your first post is the word "fastback." As you search around eBay and CL, you will begin to notice that there are tons of coupes in great condition for way less than 15k. You will have a harder time finding FBs in that price range that aren't heaps.

When I was looking, all the FBs seemed to either be rusted out, in pieces, or fully restored and way outside my price range. So if you must have a fastback, be patient, keep looking around and don't settle for a rust bucket - try to find a runner that is structurally sound. Just be aware that for 15k, you probably won't find a pristine, matching numbers example FB (but if you do, grab it!).
