K Code restoration tips

Hi guys, my name is Scott from Brisbane, Australia. I am a lucky owner of a 65 K Code Mustang that is in very good condition. I drive it every week and would love to drive it more. I have the majority of the electrical work completed and it runs beautifully. There are some cosmetic issues but overall it is an awesome example of a classic mustang.

I am looking to do some more restoration work like repainting, weather proofing and insulating the floor as it gets very hot. Any tips on some of the best ways to do this would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Scott

Welcome to the Forum!

What a great looking car! Can we have some more pics?

About the only thing I would suggest is to stay as close to stock OEM as possiable with a rare Mustang like yours since a restro mod restoration might actually hurt the value of your Mustang.

One like mine which is not so rare is one that you could actually do some mods to and not really have to worry about something like that.

Does your car already have AC on it? If not and you plan on adding it I would suggest staying with the old R12 instead of the new 134 systems since the 134 systems can make your car run hot. It's an issue I've had since I got my 65 about a year and a half ago!

Hi there, thanks for the tips. Definitely agree that I do not want to change too much given it is a rare car and in such excellent shape. It is a 65 K Code and it has all the plates attached so it is authentic. I had a power steering kit sent over from the US for mustangs of my vintage and I decided to add a hydraulic clutch kit because the old one was poor and heat continually caused the clutch cable to stretch and burn it all out. Other than that I have left it 'as is' as I do not want to mess with it and keep it as original as possible.

Some pics for your pleasure have plenty more if you are interested
