How much can i advance the timing on a 289, auto trans with a semi mild cam ?

 

i bring my timing up till i hear a noticable " ping " when accelerating then back off till the pinging stops .. i get max timing that way .. i dont know how good factory #s are on old engines with todays puny gas ....
