Hurst Shifter
#1
I have a Hurst Competition Plus shifter linkage installed on my Toploader 4-spd. by the previous owner when the car was restored about 15 years ago. All the emergency brake equipment was removed some time in the past. When I moved from MI to PA a few years ago I reinstalled all the emergency brake cables and brackets. While doing this, I discovered the backup switch was a cobble-job (plastic door switch and a lot of electrical tape ) and interfered with the emergency lever. So I took the backup switch off and temporarily installed a flip switch under the dash.
Being the perfectionist I am (well, not really, but I'm trying to do this right) I ordered the correct Hurst backup light switch and bracket. Guess what? Yep - I can't mount it because it too interferes with the emergency brake lever... :bang: As far as I can tell, the emergency brake lines are all installed properly, correct brackets, etc.
Is there something I'm missing with these Hurst comp plus linkages in 4spd Mustangs??

And does anyone know the correct thread for a standard Mustang 4spd shifter shaft? The Hurst shaft was cut and a standard Mustang shaft welded on to retain the "stock" look. If I pull off the ****, is there anything special I should know about the reverse-lockout?
