Horsepower out of 200 ci 6 cylider

I am debating on keeping my 6 or upgrading to a 289. Who has modified a 6 and have you gotten any good horsepower gains? Are you able to achieve a good sound out of it? I am not looking for a race car here with huge horsepower. Just enough to get up and go a little.

2bbl carb, header, different distributor, maybe a cam, different head.

I had the first 3 and did a late model 5 speed swap, and it had some good pickup.

I then did a 302 swap and it cost me $1000+ and that was with me already having a 5 lug conversion, V8 driveshaft, and 8" rear end.

food for thought.

I put my car on a dyno with a 289/bored 40 over with a very mild cam, intake, and carb kit.. it made 157 RWHP and 217 RWTQ.

If power is in your vocabulary, than the number 6 should not be.

My 6 was predicted to have 100+ to the wheels. Stock they make 80. I wanted to turbo mine, but never got around to it. There is a 200 6 with a couple thousand in it that made 211 to the wheels.

Thanks for the input. I don't wanna swap the car for a v8 can because its a car we have had for a long time. If anything I will just upgrade the car to a V8. I am just not sure if I want to do that yet or not.

It was bored .040 over, 2bbl Holley 5200 carb, DSII distributor swap, Dual outlet header. Then I had a T5 put behind it instead of my old 3 speed.

I had these side drafts on my Lotus.

You'll need a Uni-Syn to synchronize each cylinder.

I have the same Webers on my 67 Lotus Elan +2. You could hear them sucking air at WOT. pretty hard to sync but they are a work of art. (I need to get off my a** and get that car running again)

The previous owner had the work done when the engine blew. It cost them over $2000 to get it done. Getting it bored isn't necessary, my grandfather had a 66 with the same things done to it except the bore and it was pretty much the same performance wise.

Ok thanks. I think I may stick with the six for now until I get some extra cash and in a couple years upgrade to the 8.
