I'm looking for information about my 1966 Mustang Coupe that is built at the San Jose plant on June 7 1966 and registrated on june 30 1966, it was sold I think at the Los Angeles DSO P.P. Box 127 Pico-Rivera, California. But thats all I know for now.
Maybe there is someone that knows the person that owned it or can tell me more about the plant or DSO and where to find more information about the history of my car.

The car was imported to holland by the papers on may 4 1996.

sadly, Ford does not have the records like Marti or Emminger for the 65-66s, due to a fire (IIRC) that destroyed a warehouse. You best bet is to try the states its been in and track down all the times its been registered or tagged.

Nice car, welcome to the board!

I agree--nice car! You might try CA and see if you can find out the original owner with the VIN. Some states will let you do this, some won't. I'm chasing mine, too. I have the name of the dealership that sold the car, but haven't had the time to try the state, yet.

Hans,

Does your car have the original license plates?

I tried to do similar research a couple of years ago. My car is an original CA car (1966 C-code Coupe), with the "Black Plates". It had not been registered in CA since 1994. After 6, the plate number falls out of their system.

I inquired with the CA Department of Motor Vehicles about tracking how many previous owners my car had. Since my plate number was no longer in the system, they said it would have to be researched manually. They sent me DMV form number INF 70R (Vehicle/Vessel Registration Record Request Form). Check the CA DMV's website for phone numbers to order. I ordered it over the phone, and they mailed the form to me.

This form will allow you to find out who your vehicle was registered to in any particular year. The problem is, the state charges $20 per year. (It appears that the manual records are filed by year). This information is part of public record. The form says that "residence address information held on file with the department is identified as confidential." So I assume that I would only get the owners name? I would really like to get the address information, so that I could possibly pin down the originally dealer that sold the car.

I think that I am the third owner of my car. I know that the previous owner purchased the car in 1988. I have not submitted my request yet, but I think that eventually, I will pull the record for 1966, 1987 & 1988 and see what comes back.

Hope this info helps. Their maybe other Mustangers out there that may find this interesting.

Craig
