Hi my name is Matt i live in Alabama and i just bought a 66 mustang coupe.
Its a six banger but i was wondering how do you tell if its the original engine?
Is the vin on the block??

Nice car, and blowing a slave cylinder sucks big ones. How about doing right before a usually busy intersection? Happened to a buddy of mine, not in a Stang, but needless to say, he ran that particular stop light, straight into a gas station, lol.
Ford didn't put vin numbers on the engines like a corvette might of had. (I think the Boss 429 is one exception but I'd have to check into it further.) What you'll want to look for is part numbers or casting numbers which give you date codes. C = 1960's 4 = last digit in year. So a part with C4 on it would be for a 1964. Keep in mind this is when the part is first made so it could be used for a couple of years and still have a C4 number on it.
