Engine Woes

Well after getting re-doing my cylinder heads (valve job, springs etc) about a month ago, my bottom end went. I pulled the plugs and they were all a strange orange color... so I did a compression test before pulling the oil pan to check things out and the 1st and 8th cylinders were a little low with about 140 psi, while the others were aout 155, the highest being 163. My rod bearings are really etched and there is significant slack in my back two rods. Now I have to decide if I want to get a new short block, long block, or rebuild my current engine. I have a couple of questions if anyone could help me out I'd be very appreciative.

Current set up- 289 engine, 289 heads, C4 auto... I wanted to know if I could use a 302 roller block as a direct replacement. Or what my options are for possible stroker/rebuild kits. I've already talked to Nappa auto parts and apparently they offer a 289 long block for $1,500.

just refresh the rest of your bottom end. as long as you dont need to bore the engine out you can sure beat the crap out of 1500 bucks. it`s a shame so many people dont have car friends who would help them out in a case like yours.. everybody wants to make a zillion dollars off every one else ..if you have torn your engine down you must know a bit about what you are doing ... do your own rebuild

Unless you have to be original, go for a 302 long block. If you have the tools, experience, and skill, rebuild. A stroker is more money but why not?
