Clone Price Point... link...

Guess you have a price point now, eh Cloney?
Collector Car Trader link...
First thing I read when I saw it was... "That's not a Shelby"... and it isn't, but the ad at the top makes you think it might be...
Are they tryin' to price a clone here as a real one, dupin' people, or are they really tryin' to get that much for the car... Is it worth this much?
Is this just a continuation of the increased demand and prices of collector cars? Or someone out to make an extra buck?

Overpriced and overhyped, IMHO. But, the only problem I have with the car is that it looks like it has a Shelby VIN tag. A few owners from now, it will be the genuine Shelby once owned by Eric Clapton.
We should just shoot the guy now

It's not a Shelby, but it's got a lot of high dollar mods on it. Considering that Shelby wants $95k for the GT-350SR, this one looks totally reasonable.

Most are criticizing the presentation, rather than the features (Clapton rumor?). I think that anyone paying $30K for a basic clone is getting ripped off big time. In my estimation, a great condition driver fastback with anything but a K code and some Shelby fiberglass is going to be a $20K car. Add alot of quality restomod touches that you'll never get your money back on in a sale, and you still have a sub $30K car. Sounds to me like it is a nice restomod clone with $3K+ of supercharger as a cherry on top. Still doesn't seem like anything close to a $46K car.
With the GT350SR, you are paying for the VIN, not the sum of the parts.
I know that a car is worth whatever someone will pay for it, but I have a hard time imagining that an educated buyer is going to drop that kind of cash on this car.

I'll tell you a secret.....my convertible is worth considerably more than I have in it. What it takes to build a car is not equivalent to it's finished value. Consider styled steel wheels. Set of four will cost you $550, but it will add $2000 to the asking price of any vintage Mustang over a hubcap car.
I wonder how much the supercharger adds?

As for the styled steel wheels, after 13 years of being in this classic Mustang hobby, I've never heard of anyone paying 2 grand more for a car just because it has styled steel wheels on it. Ever.
A supercharger usually adds a bit less than the purchase price of the parts. In fact, even if a system has never been installed, it is difficult to sell it for retail price. In fact I've never seen one sell for retail or more.

Interesting, VERY interesting...
So, I'm not at all out of my mind at the $40k I quoted the other day. Yeah, that car has a big (Paxton) extra, but I've got brakes, suspension, seating & and 5-speed....
I've bookmarked it, and will keep an eye on it. THANKS for the link!
PS: Spent the last few days up in Nixon's area - college shopping at Creighton, Drake, Grinnel & Central - an extra $40k might be a GOOD thing right now!!!

As it worked out, we went to Central from Grinnell, so everything was backwards! :bang: Very nice schools, BTW. Wasn't impressed by Drake at all though.
When we left Pella, we tried to "shortcut" back to I-35 thru Knoxville... Oops, the Knoxville Nationals are going on - people EVERYWHERE!

Wow, I am still shocked by the price increase of Shelbys in the last few years.
I remember when all but the most mueseum worthy survivors or super low production cars were going for $35K.

I think concourse type cars could get into the low 100K's. I've seen a Hertz for 130K. ?? I would say at least 75K

Ugh, disregard everything I said in this thread. I am obviously way out of touch on the pricing of Shelbys.

Pretty nice Hertz on eBay right now, just over $40k and reserve is met... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...0&category=6465
