Clogged fuel pump and filter.

So I stalled out the onther day and had a hell of a time getting the 66 home. Thankfully I did, but now she sits. I'm 99.99% sure it was a clogged fuel pump and filter seeing as the inline filter before the carb was filled with particles and rusty orange in color. I replace the filter and fuel pump already, but I was wondering if I could run a second inline filter before the fuel pump? And I bought the fuel tank used, cleaned it and installed it but never coated it. Should I take it out, clean it again and then red-kote seal it? Any suggestions would be great!

The orange stuff is RUST! It either came from the lines or the tank. My bet is on the tank. If it were me I'd buy a new tank. On every Mustang I've ever restored, one of the first pieces I fix/replace is the gas tank.

I used my original tank and put a filter before the pump. I got the clear ones so i can see when its dirty and change it. Just get a 90* one or else the line will kink and pick up a few of them im on my 5th one in about 600 miles but been on the last one for about 300

I took my tank out and cleaned it real good. It had a little rust in the tank, but not a lot. The problem was is I let the gas get down to "E". And it just pulled all the rust into the line. I went ahead and "Red-Kote" the tank and it looks great now. I'm going to reinstall it and add the extra filter before the pump and see how it goes. Thanks for all the help!!!
