I recently bought a 1969 mustang fastback and I was told that the tranny which is an original C4 had a shift kit put into it but when I got the engine work done I took it out for a drive and when I put it in 1st it shifts into 3rd and 2nd is of coarse 2nd and when I put it into D drive it goes into 1st...Im new to the classic mustangs..always owned fox bodies would anyone know if this is an easy fix maybe linkage problems or somthing internal like the valve body? thanks
Jeff

Early C4 trans does not have the typical 123 valve body. These units are referred to as green-dot ones, so called because of thr green dot for drive in the middle position - if I remember correctly - normally the 2 position. Low or first is still all the way down in the 1 position and the 3 position is a second gear to third gear shift. Could this be what you have.

Either what Rickster said or linkage. I would check and make sure it is right because no matter what, you put the car in low and that should be first...

It sounds like you have a reverse manual valve body modification. Those are normally used in drag racing. Your best bet is to replace the valve body with a stock 66-69 body. It is possible to undo the reverse manual vb mod but you ould need the original parts that came out.
