C4 Auto overhaul cost

It looks like my Trans is leaking all over the place. And it might need to be overhauled. My shop quoted me $1400 to overhaul it with all new parts. Does that sound high to you guys?

They said they even do the torque converter. I'm not sure if he meant they replace it as well? I'm not much of a trans expert...........

Last C4 I had done was about $400...
Of course, that was around 1988.
Seriously, have you looked into buying a rebuilt from a local tranny wholesaler.
Check out online sources too:

Shop around and good luck.

I was looking for something a little more recent.....

Or should I ask how much a Tremec T5, with a hydraulic clutch would be? It will at least blow his mind since he's a Concures OEM kind of guy. lol

Yeah... When my C4 goes out, I'm getting 4 speed. T5 would be cool, but I would like to keep that car at least period correct.

Yeah, I would like to do that too, but it would cost a lot more then just getting the C4 overhauled. There's a guy who makes new ones, but just for the Trans itself is 2 grand, plus clutch, other new parts, etc. I can't afford that right now.......

The 4 speed top loader is supposed to be stronger then the T5, depending on which one you get.

I was kinda hinting that you should check out some of the online places like the one I had linked to in the post.
Not all are cheap though:

I just called Mid Cities Mustang and they said that my engine was about done, but that the Trans was leaking like a freaking sieve! Lol

Talking to them, they told me that they take the trans out and soak the case in order to put it back to new condition. I don’t know that a tranmission would do that kind of thing so I told him to go ahead and overhaul it. He said that the rear end looked good and has oil in it. He also said that they might be able to get it back to me on Wednesday, which would be good since they are going to close until next year.

The 65 should be in real good shape when I get it back since the Trans is about the only thing I haven’t gotten overhauled until now. lol
