Build a 289 or 302?

Can someone help me learn to build a 289 or 302? I have a 68 with a 200 back in Texas and now I'm in Alaska but I would like to start building a new motor for it. It's auto btw

There's a lot of people here to help out with a build. I for one just refuse to build a bottom end/rotating assembly myself but there are a few here that still do them.

So for a first timer like myself, where would I start. I've been reading a lot about engines to try and faniliarize myself with components but I'm more of a hands on leaner. Are there websites that can show me where to start on a 302 build or how does someone learn to build one that isn't goin to some college for auto technician

Idk know of websites but everything i know i learned from powerblock on spike.

Id sugest lookin for a upgrade kit. These kits have everything needed and will all fit and work. They are alittle expensive though but are easyest way for a beginer to build up there motor.

since you have the 6 banger and want to go V8 a good thing for you to look at is buying an old mid 70`s or late 60`s something that may be beat to death body wise but somewhat good mechanically with a 289 or 302 engine .. you will need all the accessories that go with a V8 as well as the V8 trans .. i dont think a 200 6 trans will fit a V8 but i could be wrong . i`m getting more and more wrong on this as i get more senile ...

Go with horsepower. I know they have build up many 302/ 5.0 motors. Also any motor build is good to watch.

The C4 (your Trans) will work with the 289 or the 302 ... They are basically the same motor ... Most top kits will fit on both. Check out Boxwrench.com ... GREAT DVD set. The full package is $100 or so and that includes an engine build DVD, a carb DVD, a rear end DVD, and Trans DVD. I personally would go with the 302 but I rebuilt the 289 that was original to my 66 notch back and have been very happy, bullet proof motor.

Don't forget the front suspension, rear axle, radiator, throttle linkage, v8 bell housing, driveshaft and exhaust that will all need to be swapped too. I just built up my six the best I could. Less hassle and I don't think I'll be racing anyway. More attention at shows too.
