Alright, well another question on the GT/CS...

First off, is it common for a leak to develop between the Master Cylinder and the Vacuum Booster.

Second, if a leak exists between these two should the whole unit be replaced or just a gasket replacement be done?

Drove the car a bit yesterday and the brakes worked fine, but there was a steady leak of brake fluid from when we filled the reservoir to to when we emptied it after driving it. It's a '68 Notchback with a 302 4V, thanks for any help!

 

Well since I beleive that the car sat for 12 years I cant remember to be positive but, It would prolly be best to replace the master cylinder instead of just the gasket. The seals inside the master cylinder could have dried up and cracked which in turn is causing the fluid to leak past them. There are a few seals inside the master cylinder that go bad after awhile and alot of use.

As far as the brake booster it could be a coin toss. You could replace the master cylinder and then have the booster go bad. Me personally I would change them both to prevent double work and to be certain that they werent going to fail in the near future.

Mine just went out too on my '92. I think the car had sat before I bought it. Just replaced the front seal on the trans. After a really cold night the brake pedal just sunk to the floor the next morning, was working fine up until that. If you don't have a major change in idle or engine running rough when you press the brakes, I wouldn't worry about the booster right now. kennyg

 

We swapped the new master cylinder on a couple days ago and took it out driving. Everything checked out great with no leaks, just need to bleed the rest of the system and it will be 100%.
