Anyone installed bond on Shelby side scoops
I bought a pair of Shelby side scoops to install on my '66 convertible. They are the bond on type. Anyone ever install these. I'm stripping the quarters back down to bare metal and etch priming them. I'll be using a 5 minute 2 part adhesive. Any tips appreciated. kennyg
i`m not familiar with using any but on a recent trip thru a salvage yard i was quite surprised by how many body panels these days are simply " glued " on .. door skins - hood skins -deck lid skins- .. scared me
I've used 5 minute epoxy for years and it is really great stuff. You will attain greatest adhesive strenght if both surfaces to be bonded are rough...not smooth. The particles in the epoxy need to grab to something, just like bondo. I would try to use fine sandpaper to roughen up the paint a bit so the epoxy works and you won't have problems in the future. Any excess epoxy can be cleaned up, before it dries, with alcohol.
some pics
Hey Ken, I bought a pair of shelby side scoops myself, And Im going to install them this weekend. Ive search the web and found some pics, but it seems they are screwed to the quarter panel. I like Al's idea but what kind of epoxy did you used exactly Al??
thanks Guys!!

Here's the epoxy I'll be using. It's Norton Speedgrip 5 minute epoxy. I purchased it through a local body shop supply, about $30. They had several cure rates available, but I chose the 5 minute type to allow a little adjustment time. The store loaned me the applicator gun. There is a mixing tip you put on the end of the catridge, leave it on after use for storage, and then replace the tip the next time you need to use the epoxy. Still haven't installed the scoops yet, but I've been fitting them and have found that I won't be able to tape them on because they are in a slight bind, so I'll have to hold them on while the epoxy cures. Here's a couple of pics of the epoxy catridge and the application gun.

That gun Rocks I wish when I was attached I had one close to the phone for those moments , I had actually called the Operator said it's my phone please cut in and tell her to get off. epoxy huh ?
