Any 260s available out there?

Looking to get started on an early 65 hard top. Body looks to be in pretty good shape and mostly orginal. However, it looks like the 260 was swapped for a 289. Are there any 260 engines still available out there and, if not, can you dress a 289 like a 260.

The objective is to finish the car as close as possible to how it came out of Dearborn about 30 July 64.

Cool thanks. I am motivated by nostalgia not show or performance. The 289 would seem to be the better choice for parts. I want it to appear as it was made...

The 260 and the 289 are both part of the Windsor engine family. It started with the 221CID engine, introduced in 1962 for the Fairlane and Mercury Meteor.

Engine/Displacement

221 CID/3.5 inch bore and 2.87 inch stroke
260 CID/3.8 inch bore and 2.87 inch stroke
289 CID/4.0 inch bore and 2.87 inch stroke
302 CID/4.0 inch bore and 3.00 inch stroke
351W CID/4.0 inch bore and 3.50 inch stroke (taller deck height)

And almost forgotten, the 255CID (4.2L), a 302 with cylinders debored to 3.68 inches. Ford made this compromise engine from 1980-1982 to deal with EPA/CAFE standards.

The 221 has different motor mounts. All the others are the same.

Really great feedback! Thanks for taking the time. I pulled the cast number today.... C3OE 6015-B 7 July 63. Looks like it could come back to either a 260 or 289. Rob Mannel's book brings it back to a 260. Either way it seems like the external cast is the same so hopefully the block turns out to be good.
