Stock replacements are in the 60 amp range. One-wires can be had at 100 amps. 60 should be fine unless you have a powerful stereo. Electric fans and a/c might be another reason to have the 100, I've read some about problems with single wires but no good details. I wouldn't feel comfortable running that much current through my '66 ammeter but I don't know about the '68.

I replaced the whole wire loom in my 66 coupe with American Autowire upgrade kit. The kit does not support ammeter dials at all. I purchased a 100amp Tuff Stuff 1wire alternator and it works fine. I had to have a new bracket made to hold it in place as the stud on the back 1/8 inch away from the block. The chrome on it is crap and has pitted and come of. The 1 wire bypasses the voltage regulator as well so the whole thing looks a lot neater. Definatly not concourse but it should now be reliable electrics.

Take a look at paperformance. I run thier 3G alt and mini starter. nice kits and lifetime warranty also great customer service. No modification needed to upgrade.
