69 shaker hood....
My 69Mach1 has got a sccop on right now, but i'm going with a shaker...so my question is: when i remove the scoop, will the hole that's there be the same size as the shaker, in otherwords, will i have to get a different hood? Thanks for any input...

the factory stamped hole in the "non-functional" hood is not the same size as the shaker .

So basically what you're saying, is that i have to get a new hood that's was a shaker before....anyone has one for sale!!!!
I really don't see how anyone can answer this without seeing a picture of your hood and how big the hole actually is.
With the exception of some GT's, pretty much no car left the factory with a hole cut out for the Mach 1 type hood scoop as they were not functional. If your hood has a hole then it was likely chopped in by some previous owner attempting to make the scoop function. So really, if the hole you have is smaller than the size required for a shaker but in the correct location, then the answer to your question would be no. If the hole is too big than the size needed or not in the correct location then the answer would obviously be yes.

I think your getting mixed up. None of these hoods came with holes. Except for Boss 429 or shaker hoods. Somebody cut that hole in your hood at one time.
So the real question is the hole in the right place and size to be converted into a shaker setup. Most likely not unless you are one lucky man. You need measurements from a template of some sort to go by. I am not sure where to get that though.
Hope that helps.

all mach 1's did come with the hood scoop, but they did not have a hole as the hood scoops were non-functional. the GT's did come with a hole in the hood but not even all of those did. we really need a pic of the hood to determine whether or not the existing hole in your hood will work or not. if it is the factory stamped hole like the gt's had then yes you can use a shaker and just make the hole bigger but you will have to fill the 2 holes at the back where the turn signal lights go.

My question was that if you take a stock hood with a scoop(which all Mach1's came with except those with the shaker option), after you've removed the scoop, would the exisyting hole from the scoop fit a shaker hood without having to change it....

Now, to try and further help you.
Let's just assume for a second that in the best possible case scenario the hole that someone chopped into your hood is actually in the right spot for a shaker regardless or not of if it needs to be enlarged or trimmed at all, you still have another issue to think about. The scoop is held on by at least 6 - 8 bolts along the sides and back (depending on if it is original or repro) and so you will still be left with those holes to fill. Granted they aren't huge holes but the hood is the worst place to use filler because of the heat, they should be welded up on both sides.
Let's also assume that in the worst case you need to replace the entire hood, then you will have to buy a repro, NOS or used and of the three you will not likely find one that has a correct hole location. They will probably all be soild and require you to cut it yourself, preferably using the template
that comes with the shaker scoop. Your only chance to avoid all this is limiting yourself to searching for a used hood that came off a shaker equipped car already and most of those get restored, not parted out.
Here is some bonus info to try and help you:

Good luck.

Thanks for the info Richard, i already found the article of Mustang Monthly......
Have to say that there is no hole in the hood right now, but looking from underneath it, you can see a demarcation on what looks to be somekind of a template for a shaker...i will have to take a pic of it as soon as i go back to my friend's house.....which is about an hour drive....or wait, i will ask him to take a pic and send it to me...will post it here whenever i can.....thanks again
Ah see, there isn't even a hole there to begin with. (Laughing with you btw Daniel not at you
) Assumptions are your worst enemy when seeking info from someone in a forum, that and incorrect decriptions can lead to all kinds of mis information or poor advice. All the hoods have that indentation you mention, the shaker would roughly line up with it but you should still never begin to cut without the template so you can cut it from the top and not the underneath.
Anyway I'm glad we are all on the same page now and have been able to help you, hopefully when we see the pic then you will be 100% ready to go. From what I can see your only concern now will really be the bolt holes left behind from the Mach scoop. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress and end result, I've wanted to go with an original shaker for years but the prices have been out there. The new fiberglass repro's aren't too expensive though now adays, I may still consider it some day for myself.
Yeah i know, i may have to do the same, finding an original shaker hood is like finding a needle in a hay stack.....but i have good sources, if not ,well i'll end up buying a flat hood and cut it.....oh well, life is tough...isn't it!
