69' Mach 1 351W 2V - Should I Do it?
Neighbor of mine has an all original numbers matching Gulfstream Aqua 69' Mach 1 with a 351W 2V 3-speed, white interior. It's in pretty solid condition. It definitely needs some TLC but could probably get it up and running with only minor work . Looked it over very very well and it has some minor rust but nothing we couldn't fix ourselves. The interior is very good with only minor blemishes where the original owner decided to put some **** carpet to replace some of the upholstery (center console and where the speakers are)! The carburetor probably needs to be rebuilt and it just needs to run as it hasn't been driven consistently for over 10 years. I think he'll accept an offer around 13-14k ... What do you think?

Sounds like it could be a good deal. The things to look out for that may require extra work are the steering valve, electrical in the dash, and make sure the torque boxes are solid. If it has drum brakes, go through those very thoroughly.

we're planning on bringing it home to give it a more thorough look so we'll definitely take a look at those areas in particular. My biggest concern now is just the price. I've been looking around online to research the market but I just don't see a lot of H-code Mach 1s. I have a pretty good idea of what M-codes go for but no H-code. I haven't found an M-code in this type of condition under 20k, so does anyone know if the H-code is worth that much less than an M?

except for the big block cars and of coarse the bosses all other codes are worth what their condition dictates .. a 351 3 speed is worth no less than a 351 4 speed ..

You never indicated if this was a Cleveland or Windsor motor. The difference between a 2 barrel (H code) and a 4 barrel ( M code) is negligible. More buyers seem to be attracted to the Clevelands more than the Windsors. I have a 70 MAch 1 that came with a Windsor and drum brakes. I upgraded to a 408 engine, TKO trans and power brakes. My car is desirable to about 50% of the buyers for MAch 1's, but the $$ are comparable to a stock numbers matching Cleveland.
The other factors that will affect the value are disk brakes, air conditioning and fold down rear seat, manual trans. Those should have more impact than

I'm 95% sure it's a Windsor. It's a 3-speed manual with factory AC, drum brakes, no power steering.
I'd most likely upgrade items like the brakes and steering but would probably keep it as original as possible.

Just over 76,000 original documented miles. Was on the cover of the May 1980 Mustang Monthly Magazine. Obtained Senior Status with MCA for all the Best of Shows and 1st place awards back then, however the rules are stricter now than they were then! I am enjoying the car.
