'69 ARA A/C Addon (was this a dealer option?)

Hi,

I recently bought a 69 fastback, imported from the USA to the Netherlands where Im from. I was wondering if anybody can tell me more about the ARA A/C addon. Was this a dealer option back then? Or just often custom installed by it's owner? Also the 'weird' clock housing, I heard the reason of this is because of the A/C parts (pump?) filling the original clock space in the dash?

thank you in advance!
regards
Frank

The ARA AC is obviously an add-on and the condensor is taking up the space behind the passenger dash. The clock is supposed to be flush with the dash, not to stick out several inches. Does the glove box still function? my guess is that the AC is taking it out as well.

Stock in-dash AC was available in '69 and was designed to fit correctly behind the dash, glove box and clock. I've included a pic from a past '69 of mine that shows what a true AC interior looks like.

thank you for your reply!

the glove box still works though..I did hear about the condensor taking up it's space, so I thought that would be the reason for the clock placement. I'll try to detach the whole thing tomorrow to see what's behind it!

I can't find anything about that weird clock housing, neither an aftermarket version of it. Also never saw this in any other Mustang ever...

it looks alot better with the clock in its original place though!

started working on the car today, took out the engine, and interior, including the dash pad, the compartment behind the clock was indeed filled with the condensor!

because it was a later addon I decided to keep the A/C out, and put the clock back where it belongs!
