Ad on Collector Car Trader Online

Can this be for real? Was the CJ available on the '67? I thought it was option only on the '68 - '70. I guess if it is, somebody will pick this thing up and we'll see it for sale again.

There is no question that it is a fraud. There is a lot of that going on lately. Especially Ebay. :notnice:

Seems like a good price ($8500.00). . . even for a fraud.

Ebay has a lot of frauds on there. Saleen and Shelby fakes are commonplace.

What people are doing is posting a car that they don't even own. They try to get the buyer to wire funds, several thousand dollars, into their account then you will never hear from them again.

Well, it has been taken down. I guess either some dumb schmuck (will that make it past the language filters?) bought it or cctol took it down.

Here's the e-mail I got in response to asking about the ad:

Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 09:33:22 -0700 (PDT)
From: "Tony Ajafar" <tonyajafar@yahoo.com> Add to Address Book
Subject: Re: Your Ad on www.collectorcartraderonline.com 1967 FORD COBRA JET

Hello and thank you for your interest..

Some words about the car :
Perfect condition, No damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects, and it is as advertised. The car is an US model with US specs, it passed the test emissions and comes with all the documents you need to register the car . I am the original owner of the car and the title is clear.

Shipping:
-I will ship the car with Lufthansa Air Cargo, and you will receive it in 5 days. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year,so there will be no probleme to use it even in weekends. I guess it is better for bouth to use it ,because is not like others services (FedEx ,UPS), regarding the size and weight of the unit.

Also,if you send me your full name and address, for i can make a reservation for shipping, and in this case I will take you as a serious and possible buyer( this way I will loose all the nonpaying bidders that I occur everyday) and arrange a further deal.

The price we hope to obtain is 8500$ and if you agree with to this
price we can start completing the transaction. The shipping cost is 1000$ - 1200$, BUT because i am in Europe( for the moment i am in Italy and the car is here with me) i will suport 50% from shipping cost.

SOO... the price of my car is 8500$ + 500$ shipping cost = 9000$ the total amount to can drive this car .
The payment must be done using a bank deposit or money order. You have to make a deposit of 1500 USD first through Western Union money transfer and we will send the car in the same day. You will to pay the balance of 7500$ COD. The return policy is of 10 days.
To arrange the transfer, you must go in person to a Western Union office and send the money from your name and address to my name and adrress.
But for your safety you can make the deposit from your name and adress to WATH NAME DO YOU WANT HERE IN ITALY (EG:YOUR WIFE'S NAME ,FATHER'S NAME,GRANDFATHER'S NAME OR WATH NAME DO YOU WANT)
I only need to check it NOT to pick up it!!!

Here are my details that you need for money transfer:
First name: Tony
Last name: Ajafar
Address: VIA DEL CORSO 303
Zip code: 00187
City: ROMA
Country: ITALY

As i told you before, as soon as this deposit confirms, i will send the car . As soon as you'll receive and inspect it, you must send the rest of the money. If in 15 days, you'll not be happy with the car, you can return it and have your money back. I will cover the potential return expenses, since i am sure this won't be the case!
Let me know if that's ok with you, so i can start the shipping arrangements!
Waiting to hear from you as soon as possible!
Thanks

Hey Nopony,

Why dont you tell him you have a car appraiser/inspector in his area that could see the car and pay him full price at that time. THEN we'll see what he says

Did you guys know that there is company that manufactures the Shelby body kits? When I restored my '68 GT and made it a Bullitt clone two years ago, the shop owner could buy those kits, the main drawback was a 6 month wait. I wonder how many of those kits have gone in cloned Shelbys sold as originals, and for big bucks.

I guess anything is possible but I don't think that many. If you are willing to spend that kind of money, you should do some research on the car through SAAC. They have pretty extensive history on each car and the chain of title. But you never know

This guy is clearly trying to scam people out of $1500 bucks. The 390 was the biggest Mustang engine in 67. Shelby use the 428 Police Interceptor engine in the GT500. The 428 Cobra Jet didn't come out until mid year 68.

that sounds exactly like the harley scams they have on ebay. something like buy this 20k motorcycle for 9 grand, because I just moved to Italy and it wont pass emissions, must sell. LMAO. then they give you a phony escrow company to send the cash to.

anyway i bought my bike on ebay from a local dealer... i went and test rode it first before I bid. I acted like I knew nothing about the auction and they gave me a trade in value on my old bike thinking I was going to pay the asking price. Ended up getting it for 4-5k less than what they were asking on the showroom floor. So i think i made out like a bandit. I must have since they havent sold anymore bikes on ebay since and that wa in 2001.

These seem to be a daily occurence on Ebay (and other places) anymore. Makes you wonder how many fools jump at the "deal" and lose their money. Must be a few, or the scammers wouldn't continue doing it... :bang:
