I am trying to get my '67 coupe up and running and I have an issue.

The entire brake assembly on the driver's side front has been removed. I am trying to piece everything back together, but I am having a heck of a time finding the back plate.

I found a back plate from a '65 and I am wondering if it will work for my 67. I think it will because I have the L6 motor and the 9", 4-4 1/2 drums. Does anyone know if this part will work? I was under the impression that when they changed the body style in '67 there was a need to change up the brakes, but I have the small engine and it appears that the parts are identical, but I have nothing to compare it to. Thanks

I'm sorry I do not have an answer for you, but have you considered turning this into an opportunity to upgrade to disc brakes?

In either case, I'll bet you can either finally find the answer you are looking for or a good and inexpensive disc upgrade here: http://www.mustangsteve.com/

I just purchased the 13" Cobra disc set for my 69' and Steve is one heck of a guy, I can't wait to try out some of his other stuff!!!! Check out his FAQ ad forum first and if you do not get an answer try emailing him directly, I have to believe he has crossed this bridge before.

Thanks much. I would prefer to leave it all original....if that turns out to be possible.

Front drum brakes. . . (shudders) Drum brakes all the way around. . . (shivers)

My first regular driver was a '66 Fairlane vert. Family car. Lost a brake line on it and found out when I went to brake at an intersecton and the pedal went to the floor. Hoo boy. Fortunately there wasn't any cross traffic. I went for the emergency brake, but by that time I was cruising through the intersection.

That was an EXTREMELY careful ride home after that.

Of course, that was not the fault of four-wheel drums; it was a failed brake line. But I remember brake fade from the old days. Gives me the heebie-jeebies.
