66 mustang with electrical short?

Hey! Was hoping someone might have a suggestion. I have a 66 mustang that started doing weird things last week, such as, lights running very dim & the stereo power cuts out. Last Tuesday I replaced the alternator, voltage regulator and spark plugs. It has a new solenoid (last year). It took a full charge on the battery, but took almost a full day to get it. This past Saturday I drove it to the lakeshore, but not before driving 50 miles to pick up my brother. It started up and ran fine, twice. At the end of a very fun evening I get back in the car and it won't turn over...grind, grind, grind. I got a jump and drove back 40 miles and ended my day. The next morning I put a brand new battery in and it has run better than ever all week. This morning, half way to my destination it starts the same thing again with the lights and the radio. What is going on? A short somewhere? A ghost (lol!)? My husband hasn't found anything so far, but electrical is not his forte'. Any suggestions?

I would test the charging system first. Autozone does it for free. Kinda sounds like battery cables or a ground wire issue. Get it tested first.
