'66 Mustang
'66 Mustang
Hello! My first time posting here even though I've been registered for quite a few years now :x Anyways picked up a car I thought I'd like to post and ask some questions about. Technically my second 60s mustang, my first being a 65 that needed a bit more restoration attention that I could do.
Picked her up over the weekend. Not in bad shape for sitting for the past 5 years, drove the 80 miles back home just fine, only problems coming from old gas. Right now just looking at doing the basics, oil change spark plugs and what not, was hoping here could give some insight into what best plugs and oil would be best for the year.
One thing I learned quickly with this car is that manual steering is a pain lol.. will be looking into switching her over to power steering and disc brakes soon. Any help on the best route to take for that would be great too. Looking forward to all your help, definitely been fun reading everyone on the sites resto threads. Thanks!

The blue car hiding behind mine is actually my dads 6cyl 67, its a little rough lol, I actually sold my 65 last summer. Right now I just plan on getting the car running a little better, gotta check out the steering it feels a bit loose. Will need to do the rear quarters and a some floor work but right now there isn't to much that needs to be done.
New paint down the road after any body work is taken care of, no idea what colors I would go with, pretty sure it wasn't originally white though. Might go with blue, have always loved grabber blue =p
Here's a crappy video from my phone of the idle.

Welcome Pat! thanks for sharing your ride!
Hey all. Have had some time to go over the car a little more. Freshened up the engine with new plugs, hoses fuel filter and cleaned the carb out a bit, running pretty good now. Just gotta get the timing down now, backfiring a bit, that was fun to happen if your face.. lol.
Found some pros and cons while going over it, one bit pro being that somewhere along the line of owner ship a ford 9" was installed, looks like it's posi with a 3.25 from what my dad and I can gather, there's a good amount of play in it, so we'll have to address that and up the gears a bit. Not sure what I would like to go with, my dad seems to be a big fan of throwing 4.11s in there.
A major con being rust on the rear frame rails, but it doesn't look like it will be to bad to get fixed up.
Just thought Id give you all an update about the car. It's gonna be fun going through the car making it a good driver!

Yeah, the rear end looks new. Are you going to put an AOD in it? The higher your gears the higher your RPMs will be on the freeway. But maybe you'll just race it?
I have 3.25 and I turn over 3000 RPMs at seventy on the freeway. Just something to consider.....

So some interesting things came about today when I went to get the car inspected, VIN number on the title I was given didn't match the door, which I knew, but it also didn't match the fender.
So after some running around doing VIN checks with the PD and town hall it looks like the car is actually a 1965 A code.. so yeah. fun day :x Anyway to change my thread title? lol

Yeah pretty much, I don't know where the one on the title came from, looks like they were trying to read the fender but not hard enough cause only a few of the numbers on the end were correct, and the car was restored at one point cause the door tag is from an entirely different car.
But they obviously had it wrong cause the car isn't even a 66.. PD did a VIN check on the fender number though and the car is clean
The state just fixed my registration, we don't title cars in NH over 15 years old so the Mass title I had isn't of use anyway. Pretty crazy though..
Pretty cool to have a car that went from being a basic C code 2v 289 to an A code 4v car with a bench seat in a day, seems like it would be a pretty rare combo. Just need to find out now if there is a way to find out what my door tag used to be, but I'm not sure that is even possible.

Hmm, maybe you can get a new door plate made up if you ever find out what it should be! lol
