65 Convertible Center Console Question

I currently have a 65 convertible with the center console that goes from under the dash to just behind the front seats. it is beat and needs to be replaced but finding a complete nice unit is costly $8-$900.00 so what i was thinking is go without the console and just have the automatic shifter but it seems the plate (with PRND) is not correct as it is meant for a console, what needs to be done to change it out is is just a swap out or is there more involved. Hopefully I have made it clear as to what I am looking for.....thanks in advace for any help/suggestions.

You need these parts to convert from your console shifter to a regular floor shifter. Hopefully the holes in the carpet under the console are not too big.

Thanks for the info as it was very helpful. Will I be using existing holes or will I need to drill new ones?
