I want to know if the 5 leaf rear springs offered by Canadian Mustang / American Pony are worth the savings over some of the competition.

I have heard that these springs pretty much stink compared to M+. I just cannot see paying so much though. M+ "aint cheep".

Is it worth stepping up and making the "big" purchase from M+ or save a few $$ and go with CM/AP. :notnice:

I've had those 5 leafs for years on my car. They are stiff springs, but I would not have any quality concerns over them. I do plan to go with something else down the road though to lighten the rear up a little... might be glass springs, might be IRS

 

i can attest that they are heavy SOB's, but i can't tell you how they ride yet as they are still in the garage awaiting installation.

 

You might check out any local Mustang vendors in your area as well. SOME well-known vendors really "pad" the freight charges - especially on a heavy item like leaf springs...... :nono:

 

Last year I got the HD four-leaf from Laurel Mountain Mustang, that raised the rear ride height about an inch. The ride is firm, but not stiff, and I don't bottom out with two kids in the back seat and a trunk full of "going-to-the-car-show-today" stuff. The price was not bad either...

 

Has anyone tried the 5 leaf springs with the reverse eyes?

I saw some gorgeous fiber springs at PRI from Hyperco

 

I have *heard* (insert standard disclaimer here) that the reverse-eyes lower the rear a lot, more than some purchasers intended. I'd be careful and check out a car with them installed before I jumped, to make sure they didnt go too far....

Has anyone bought leaf springs from cj pony parts? I'm not sure if it's worth the money to get 5 leafs or stay with the stock 4 leafs ( it's about $100 difference).

 

I have 4-leafs from M+ and they seem to be stiff enough. I havent tried 5-leafs but they have got to be incredibly stiff, if the 4-leafs are any indication :shrug:

As i posted earlier, i got the 4 leaf and they are plenty stiff for a casual driver. I wouldn't get the 5's unless you are trying to stiffen the car all the way around for sport driving.

 

I bought the 1 inch lowering springs from American Pony( don't remember if they are 4 or 5 leaf). I have only driven on them a couple of times, but I like them better than what was on it. When I bought it it had springs that raised the rear about 2 inches. so after the 1 inch drop in the rear, it is sitting about 3 inches lower in the rear. I put 1 inch lowering springs up front and replace all the shocks at the same time so there was a drastic change in ride.

Nice ride for the street with a little stiffness thrown in.
