Is this a 390?

The car has an S code engine which should be the 390. I am confused because I recently bought a mustang repair manual and the picture of the 390 in the book looks nothing like the engine in the car. It is a 67 gt.

That is an FE block,
which means the engine could be a 352, 390, 410, 428... etc. etc.
There is even a "352" cast on the front of the block even if it is a 390,
the best way to be sure is find the casting numbers (on bottom of block) and de-code them.
There is also a small aluminum tag (at least from the factory) between the ignition coil and intake, that has the displacement stamped on it as well.

Definitely an FE - not reason to believe that it's not a 390. A clutch fan could be standard or could have been added/changed - not really an indicator of anything one way or another. If you saw a picture with a passenger side PS pump, I'd tend to think the editor "flipped" the negative - they are always on the driver's side...

I have a 390 in my truck. The block looks the same. But my Heads are a little bigger then the ones in that pic. I'm pretty sure my heads are stock. But there prob different Engines. Since mine is in a F-100. 1976.
