289 with AODE conversion. What flywheel?

289 with AODE conversion. What flywheel?
I am installing an aode on a 1965 mustang with a 289. I noticed the flywheel bolt diameter is smaller than the converter bolt diameter. Can anyone suggest what flywheel I need to use? It is a balanced flywheel.

You have a tough situation, you have an internally ballenced motor with a transmission that has torque converter patern with an externally blanced motor. After 1980 all small blocks have different harmonic balancers and flywheels cause the crankshaft is missing counterweights. Have you rebuilt your 289 and had it professionally balanced? If so your flywheel may have been altered and you cant duplicate that. I'm not sure if anyone has created an aftermarket flywheel to replace a stock older flywheel for an AOD...........you may be able to but a converter for an AOD with an older bolt patern from TCI. it is not unheard of to redrill new holes in the flywheel to match your new convertor .. iv`e done it a few times when iv`e used aftermarket stuff ..make sure your convertor hub fits snuggley into the crank as that is what lines it up as well as it going into the trans pump housing .. if the new holes are a bit large that`s no biggy ..

cant do that with this cause theres no flat area for the converter studs and the coverter drain is next to the stud on one coverter and between studs on the other. He will be better off buying a tci converter anway .........it will lower the rotating weight of the converter and help line launch. The hub will fit.........thats one thing they didnt change. Redrilling holes will change the balance too.

thanks for the help, I did a little more research online and found several other people with the same situation. The solution is a flywheel for a 1980 ford full size car with the 351. Some people even listed the parts numbers which were verified, local parts store had it and it was indeed larger diameter with the same size counterweight at the exact same location. Again thanks for jumping in with your opinions
