OK well I gave up my search for a 289 and a buddy gave me a rebuilt 351w so long as i put it in my car but what i need help with is if the front end will handle the weight of this larger block and will the frame twist with the added hourse power also what tranny would be recommended as i do intend to make the car as stock as possible minus rear end tranny and engine but i feel like i am smashing my head against the wall :bang: just trying to figure out what is going to be needed to get this conversion also any recomendations about intake and carb? as i am not really a 351 guy but a 302 and i haven't had any time to see what the differences are. thanks O collected group of knowledge :worship:

The engines are pretty much the same, just some dimensional differences, you'll need some headers to fit it, should be alittle easier than a '66 since they had a little larger engine bay, though. The other fit problem you could have is with the hood and your carb./air cleaner. Your FMX should bolt up to it, but an AOD or C4 would work as well. The 351 is only a little heavier than a 302/289 so the stronger 600lb. springs are all you should need, and maybe not even that!!

If they fit a 428 in there, your 351w will fit just fine. Headers are always a pain but worth it. the 351 is a bit taller and wider than the 302. So the intake and distributor are different. Build a C4 for it and you should be good to go.

The 351W is essentially the same engine as a 302 but with a taller deck. This affects the location of the exhaust ports. Comb through some classic Mustang magazines and there should be a vendor who sells both shortie and long-tube headers for that application (I can't remember off the top of my head)

The motor mounts are the same as the 289 as well, as they are the same engine family. As for the transmission, it should be able to bolt up but it should be built up/replaced to handle the extra power.

Another thing to keep in mind is the radiator. It may need to be upgraded depending on the power increase.

I'll do some digging and see if I can find any 351 engine swap articles
