1970 Mustang power at coil with key off

I have a 1970 Mustang that is getting power to the ignition coil with the key off. I replaced the ignition switch with a new one (very expensive). It is doing the same thing my original one did--allow power to the coil with the ignition off. It fried my last coil.

I followed the instructions from Mustang Monthly when installing it--turn key to accessory position and pull the switch down as far as it would go, then tighten mounting bolts.

The car will start and shut off just fine, yet I have power to the coil with the key off.

Any thoughts?

Peter

Have you checked to see if the circuit is shorted to power anywhere besides the switch? Possibly another wire in the harness. Try to isolate sections of the circuit by disconnecting connectors and check for continuity to other wires. Disconnect the battery first.

I disconnected the "i" terminal on the starter solenoid. This corrected the power issue at the coil.
I now have voltage there when I should and no voltage when there should not be any.
What does the wire on the "i" terminal do?
