I plan on looking at a 1970 Mach 1 that a friend of a friend may part with in a couple of weeks. It has an M code 351 in it that the owner thinks is original. I would really like to find out.

Where do I find the stampings on a 351 C motor?

Should the numbers match the serial number, or is it by date only like the early Mustangs? (if it is by date, how do the dates work? Does A=January, B=February, etc.)?

It's an Dearborn assembled car, is there anything else I should look for? I am not real familiar with the 69/70 cars. I have read that there should be a buck tag on the radiator support. Is there any references out there that explain what the buck tag codes equate to?

I think its by date, but Im not an expert on 69-70s. The decoders above will get you started. Youll need the VIN, of course.

The buck tag on a dearborn car is on passenger side radiator support (front) It has VIN, body code ,interior code. Look for your build sheet. I have a Dearborn 70 Mach 1 and I found it behind the passenger door panel. Better yet go to the 1970 Mach 1 registry (search for it). It will tell how to contact Marti report, that can send you all the info, for a cost if you give the VIN to him. Alot of info at that site.
