Thumbs up

My brother called me yesterday and he said he saw a 1966 Mustang with the body in good shape. I have not scene it myself yet but he is thinking about buying it. Its only a V-6 and from what he says its in good shape. The guy is asking $6000 for it which I thought was steep for a V-6 but then again I have never bought a classic Mustang. Other than the obvious things like checking the body for bondo, making sure the VIN numbers match as best as I can and checking the engine for signs of poor maintenance what should I tell him to look for? Any help would be appreciated.

I got my car with an 8 in it for just over 6K. no rust dents, rips in leather cracked dash, ripped headliner. I thought i got a pretty good deal. 6K for a very clean car with a 6 is still pretty good though imo.

You can see how much I know about some of these classic Mustangs. Don't forget this car was 20 years old when I was born haha. Need all the help I can get on this one.
I haven't actually seen the car yet either but I think my brother told me that the sign on it said "V-6" but I may have been mistaken. I guess this would mean that the guy replaced the original I-6 if its true.

Wouldn't be the first time a seller didn't know what they really have

If your ultimate goal is to turn the car into a V8, there's more to THAT process then just dropping in a different motor. So unless you get a screaming deal on a I6 to begin with, the car as a V8 will csot you more than if you just bought a V8 car.

On the other hand, if you want to leave it as an I6 and it's in good condition, the value will hold just fine.

My $.02

I don't know how the market is up in NY, but around here, I see good condition 65-66 V8 coupes (that might need a little love, but are good cars) go for +/- $4K all the time. A 6 cyl had better be close to perfect for it to go for $6K. (mind you that a truly perfect show winner 6 cyl would go for more like $10+, but all those little details that make it a winner really cost ya)

All round numbers here, but you get the idea.
