I have a 1966 200 6cyl and it decided it would stop idleing on me. I filled up with mid grade gas and after that it started to run rough. As soon as you take your foot off the gas it stalls out. It runs rough and missing. I changed all 6 spark plugs witch were carbon fouled. I replaced the points and gap them at 17. I replaced distributer cap and rotor started car up but did not help it at all. Took the carb off engine and took it apart and checked needle and seat and checked float and blew out all passages did not see anything in carb, really clean, checked timming which was ok. did a compressing check on all 6 cylinders all rev between 175-180 which are in spec so i ruled out burnt vavles. Checked distributer shaft and it was tight, no slop.

Car when running acts like it is misfiring,

Does anyone have any idea.

Very confused.

Where should i go next drain the fuel and put new fuel in??

Sounds like the station had some water in there tank.. And they were low on gas when you filled up... The water in a huge gas station tank will settle to the bottom of the tank.. If the tank is low, then when you pump, it may suck some water along with the gas.. This is why gas stations shut their pumps off once the level gets down to about 10 inches inside the tank...

I would say for you to drain the gas out of your tank, and put gas in from another station...

The motor you have is good, but I wouldnt mind you swapping it out for a 289 Hi-PO! LOL!! I had to stick that in there..

I used to have a 66 with a 289 Hi-PO 4spd.. Ported and polished heads, and gear-drive with long tube headers.. God I miss that car.. Can you rebuild it for me through yours? LOL!!

If all else fails change the fuel pump.....we have a 65 vert with a 289 HiPO and it constantly bogged out...we rebuilt the carb and it still stalled on us...but after we replaced the fuel pump everything is perfect

hope this helps

Check all vacuum hoses are attached secure and look for a any cracks or leaks. Check the wires from distributor to coil for any breaks or cracks especially where it goes through the distributor housing. Also check that the wires to the points are not grounding out by touching the housing. Did you replace the condensor? Also, use a dwell meter to set dwell and if you used a feeler guage to adjust point gap, run a clean dry cloth between the points to whipe off any oil or grease that may have come from the feeler guage.

For whats it worth. I had a 66 straight 6 200 cid back in the day. I had the engine overhauled and installed a new ford carb. It would run fine till it got hot and then not start....at all.

After a long, expensive trouble shooting, I found that the spacer between the manifold and carb had a crack. replaced it and problem solved. check yours. Try spraying some carb cleaner or starting fluid around all the fittings and mating flanges. if it speeds up or runs better.... you got a leak.

I kinda lean toward the fuel pump as well. It's an easy test so just see if it's pumping out a steady amount or just a trickle.... It may just not be enough gas getting to the carb. If you checked spark than there just isn't much left that you haven't gone through.

just to eliminate water in the fuel, you can try this stuff called "Heet" which is a water dispersant.
or you could take a sample of the gas by disconnecting the fuel line and turning the engine over, and catch some gas in an old coffee can or somethin. water will look like little "bubbles" in the bottom.

I hate asking this, but did you check the in-line fuel filter? It's a pretty simple check compared to all the more extensive things you have done and have yet to do so if not, it's probably worth a shot. I didn't see a mention of that so I thought it might be worth saying.

Good luck.
