So the only options I had for the choke when I ordered my carb was "standard" choke and "electric choke". I assumed standard = manual and electric = automatic so I chose the standard choke

Open = **** pulled out?

 

Choke open would be **** fully in. Is there a cable connected to the carb that moves as you move that **** in and out?

 

Nothing moves when I move that **** in and out, and no fuel goes into the carb when I press on the gas (Yes the car has fuel in it)

I remember my dad saying the choke needed to be rewired at the beginning of this year when we were trying to figure out what all we need to replace

 

It sounds like the gas pump hasn't had a chance to fill the carb with fuel yet. I'm not sure how long you have to crank in order to fill the fuel bowl in an empty carb.

 

So I should give the 10sec crank 30sec rest rinse repeat deal a few more tries?

Any idea where the movement should be when I move the choke ****? It's entirely possible I missed a connection since this is my first time doing any mechanics work

 

The choke plate at the top of your carb will open and close IF it is connected to the cable. Some automatic chokes are electric, others simply use a bimetallic coil that expands and contracts as the engine heats up or cools to open and close the choke. A pic of the side of your carb where I noted choke adjustment would tell us if it is electric or not. Or if it has terminals for wires, it is electric.

 

The hose next to the SCV connects to the spark plug area, the hose on the bowl connects to the fuel pump, the hose on the spacer connects to the engine block.... Unless I'm wrong!

So right now the reference mark closer to the main carb is in the middle of the other marks closer to the black adjuster. Which way should I rotate the black thing to adjust it?

 

Usually the black thing will have something written on it telling you which way is which. One way makes it richer (choke takes longer to open), the other way makes in leaner (opens sooner). Not really sure what way you'd need to go.

 

Do I want the choke valve to be open or closed when the car is off? It was mostly closed before I tinkered with the adjustment.

 

It should be closed, but not tightly closed. Most likely it should probably be open just slightly. If you have a shop manual for your car, it would have the procedure for adjusting the choke. If not, maybe someone else will chime in with an answer. The only drawback to this forum is most of us have newer Mustangs and there are not as many old-school people on here.

I'm not sure. But even if that is off a little, it should still start. If it isn't shut enough it just won't idle right when cold, but still start.

 

I can't get it anymore shut than that picture. It still turns over but doesn't start. I tried about 4 times and the gas pedal still doesn't do anything. I'll try again later today when it cools down

 

This is weird.

I seriously just 'threw mine on' my 200, and started her right up back when.

It sounds like you don't have spark or you're not getting fuel to the carb. Have you checked for fuel in the bowl, or is it coming out of the line from the fuel pump?

How do I check for the fuel? The car started in the last couple months with the old carb (But ran like ***) so it's more than likely a fuel issue and not a spark plug issue. I'll check the spark plugs after the fuel if the fuel isn't the issue

EDIT: My dad did say we'd need a new fuel pump so...

 

Have you tried the starting fluid again yet. If it starts with the starting fluid it is most likely a fuel delivery problem and if it does not start it is most likely some sort of electrical problem

 

I'll try that when I get back home from vacation. I'm pretty sure this is the problem as the Carb bowl is empty

 

My dad got her started with the starter fluid, and it appears there was a little leak in the fuel line. So I got that tightened up a little more now and I'll try her again in the morning
