1964 Indy 500 Pace Car - Worth?

A co-worker of mine has acquired a 1964 Indy 500 Pace Car replica coupe, 260 engine, and would like to sell it. It is fully restored, mint condition, etc. Does anyone know what the asking price for one of these should be?

is it a clone?.....or is it an authorized replica....you know...Ford made so many of them to be sold...then there is the actull car that paced the race...and then there are people that clone the pace car out of thier 1st gen coupes cause they want to, similar to what fastback owners do to make Shelby clones...
...if it is an actuall pace car in mint condidtion....I would say its worth maybe around 15-20k...depending on the buyer...I would'nt pay that much for one, but a collector might.

It is one of the replica's that Ford made, so it is an official Ford special edition, not a clone, but it was not one of the actual pace cars either. Someone offered him $40k for it and he turned him down, claimed he saw one on Ebay that sold for $100k plus, but i'm not so sure what's so special about a stripe package white 64 coupe that would make anyone pay that much, seems a bit insane to me.

30-50K sounds about right for market value, all in where you live and if there is a market for such a vehicle.

I own a MCA concours trailered 1964.5 Indy Pace coupe.
Even though it consistently wins gold, only lost two points at the MCA Grand National, I don't believe it is worth more than $35-40K. It is a plain coupe, even though has some early Mustang history. Would take a rare and special buyer to pay more. There were approx. 185-200 made by Ford in April of 1964. They were given as awards to dealers. Nothing special other than history, that is why I restored miine. About 40-50 known to still exisit. Only two are concours restored. Many are very nice though.

There was a group of three from an Indiana collector who attempted to sell at an auction about a year ago. I'm told he wanted $100K for all three. They didn't sell. I have watched ebay for years on these cars and everything associated with them. I can truly say none have gone for $100K, or anywhere near that.

Your friend should take the $40 K and run. Even Boss values are coming down to that range now.

There's a really nice one in Georgia ... it's even been on display in the Summit Racing Showroom. I see it at several of the Mustang shows here in Georgia.

I'd say 30k-35k. That's if it's truly mint. Most of the time I find mint cars are anything but mint.

Thanks Jeff!
On the other hand....
Mine is priceless and $100K wouldn't touch it!
Too much personal history and sentimentality.

pictures dont do the car justice. if youre a pace car fan and can get to an MCA national (maybe the one in utah next year) you need to see this one.

J - i can still keep the car in florida so you can make the pensacola national next spring

That looks beautiful. I'm a big Mustang pace car fan. It's definitely a keeper.

Thank you, I hope I can find someone who can really appreciate it and finish the restore.
