Fired up the engine Friday morning and it runs great! Bought it as is and didnt hear it run but the PO seemed honest. Got a little worried when I found a new oil pump in a box of parts but no problems there. It has rebuilt heads, new alternator, regulator, solenoid, and a new radiator. Got the title in the mail Friday too, just 4 days after submitting it to DMV!

Depends Im the condition, does it run? Any rust on it? Pictures would help out as well if you have any of those.

 

there are several on ebay at the moment .. look at those and compare them to what you are looking at .. if it is not in running condition then make sure at least all the chrome/glass and trim are in good shape .. paint aint that important on a 5 grand car .. it is more important to find what it does`nt need than what it does .. such as it may have 2 grand worth of wheels and tires on a piece of crap car ..

Hello all. I have a 1968 Mustang convertible my grandfather pulled out of a scrap yard. He put a '76 (about the time he did the project) Grenada engine (inline 6) in it, without issue. It runs. He had it repainted red (from blue) for my grandmother. It has nothing original besides the frame, but he did put various vintage mustang parts in the dash, grill, gascap, etc.. The interior is also in rough shape, torn leather and carpet, with black trash bags on front seats, and a bench seat in the back (no seat belts). The frame, especially under and in the rear, has a good amount of rust, as does both fenders (silver pieces on front and back?). My dad is looking to sell it, and has asked for my help in assessing it. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
Since my dad, my brother and I all drove it to high school, it has some sentimental value, and an rough ballpark figure on a restoration would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

 

My first car, in 1971. Sold new by my father. I still drive it in the summer. It has 74,@@@ miles now, I bought it with 18,*** in 1971.

I thought I had posted here with pics of my 1967 coupe - but I was mistaken! So here's my current baby that a friend of my wife's named "Blue Belle". She's a slightly restomodded 1967 Mustang coupe painted in her original Brittany Blue color. Her restoration was completed in October, 2010 but I continue to modify her as possibilities come to mind.

She's a show car and has won 1st place in Occasional Driven at two different Mustang Club of America (MCA) shows. The pics show the "before" state and what she looks like now. The "now" pics were taken at the Pensacola MCA show in 2012 - after I drove her from Tampa (and back afterward, over 1,000 miles round trip) so she's not just a garage queen!

 

very nice ... when people come on here and ask advice on what to do with their coupe mustangs i always tell them to make a custom something .. usually say make a california special out of it .. but you`ve done well by mostly making yours original .. i forget sometimes we need to see how ford did it also .. i see the side vents/scoupes are gone .. is that part of the restomoding you speak of ... it looks great .. thanks for sharing ...

 

Thanks so much for the kind words! It is mostly original but I've tweaked it in a variety of subtle ways. Most of the quarter panels had to be replaced due to rust, so I opted for the 68-style as I didn't particularly care for the 67 side-scoops anyway.

The dash cluster has new Auto Meter gauges and please notice the custom shifter bezel adapted from a 2005 bezel, with the early deluxe shifter handle in blue to match. Of course, the high-back seats are from a 1970 Mustang and upholstered with the 70 deluxe upholstery that has trim buttons that sort-of match the aluminum trim dash. The small upper console is a set of map lights constructed from a 67-68 Cougar convenience console.

And on the outside, the fender badges are the 68 Mustang script because I like the look. The grille is 68 as well with matching fogs but the running pony is from a 2005 grille - the 2005 horse is about 40% bigger than the 67 grille horse! I also had the rocker molding removed as I prefer the cleaner look without. And a very subtle difference is the fact that the drip rails have been shaved! That was another result of rust - the rails were rusted so badly that it would have cost a small fortune to have them rebuilt.

I had a devil of a time getting the power steering to not leak so I switched the sytem to a Borgeson integral steeing box. As I built the car, I also installed upper seatbelt mounts so that I could install 3-point front seat belts for safety reasons. Likewise I also changed out the steering column from the original solid shaft spear to a collapsible column and box from a 67 Cougar.

Blue Belle also was changed to power disk brakes up front. And she's been lowered about 1" all around by use of mid-eye rear leaf springs and use of the Shelby-drop on the front A-arms.
