Formula Drift Legend James Deane Joins RTR
Three-time Formula Drift Champion James Deane returns to FD in a 1,000+ Horsepower RTR Mustang Spec 5, and it’s going to be awesome.
There has been tons of speculation about who would be joining team RTR for the 2023 Formula Drift season since Adam LZ announced that he’s taking a step back. While many speculated that Travis Reeder would fill the gap or that Vaughn Gittin Jr would end his hiatus and come back to competition, not many predicted this outcome. “The Machine” James Deane is making his way back over the pond from Ireland to compete in Formula Drift once again. This time, it’s in a Mustang.
Vaughn Gittin Jr himself made the announcement this morning across his social platforms and posted a video on his YouTube channel. The video makes the announcement that Deane is joining the team and shows his efforts on track as he gets comfortable behind the wheel of his new competition home. If you aren’t familiar with Deane’s history in drifting, we’ll fill you in. Needless to say, it’s going to be an absolute blast to watch.
James “The Machine” Deane Is the Only Three-Peat Formula Drift Champion
James Deane is a legendary drifter who made a significant impact in the world of Formula Drift just a few short years ago. His debut in Formula Drift immediately impressed fans and fellow drivers with his exceptional car control and aggressive style. Over the next few years, he became a dominant force in the series, winning back-to-back-to-back championships in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Deane is known for his ability to push the limits of his vehicle and execute precise and daring maneuvers on the track. He has earned a dedicated following of fans and fellow drivers alike, cementing his place as one of the greatest drifters of all time.
Though Norwegian powerhouse Fredric Aasbo currently has a chance at a three-peat going into this season, he’s now got quite the obstacle to overcome in the form of Deane. This is especially true with the financial backing and knowledgeable resources courtesy of RTR.
“The biggest challenge is just getting used to taming that beast, because, by God, it’s an animal. I’ve never had that much power under my right foot, you know, instantly,” said Deane, referring to driving the RTR Mustang.
In addition to the power, Deane states that he struggled a bit being on the left-hand side of the car. However, RTR is building him a right-hand-drive variant of the Mustang to ensure he feels right at home in the competition. Overall, we can’t wait to see how he performs come this Formula Drift season. We’re just a few short weeks out from the season opener in Long Beach, the weekend of April 7th and 8th.
