Shelby Mustang GT350R Versus Chevy Camaro ZL1: Video
Two of the most hardcore pony cars on sale today compete against each other in Motor Trend’s latest Head 2 Head video.
The Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 are some of the best pony cars on the market today. They’re so good that some automotive outlets have even gone out of their way to claim that both no longer abide by pony car rules, but by the more stringent laws of sports cars. And now, thanks to Motor Trend, the two cars go up against one another in what is one extremely loud video.
On paper, it looks like the Camaro ZL1 is the clear winner. The Shelby GT350R’s down on power, 526 horsepower against 650, is slower, taking roughly 3.9 seconds to get to 60 mph instead of the ZL1’s 3.4, and isn’t as fast with a top speed of just 175 mph compared to the Camaro’s 195 mph figure.
Heck with the massive power difference between the two, the Shelby GT350R, as Motor Trend found, is slower around Big Willow than the Camaro ZL1, as well. But as Jason Cammisa and Jonny Lieberman find out in the video, choosing between the Shelby GT350R and the Camaro ZL1 isn’t an easy task.
With these two models, the 50-year rivalry has hit an all time high. Both the Mustang and the Camaro have evolved to new standards over five decades, pushing the models to new standards.
