The 2009 Ford/Lamborghini Tractorri

Ford-Lamborghini Tractorri is a legendary SEMA showstopper that’s business in the front but all party in the back.

If you look at them just right, the Ford Mustang and the Lamborghini Gallardo aren’t that different. They’re both fast, they both are dream cars to millions, they end up racing against each other more than you’d expect, and of course, they’re both great at turning fuel into noise. Of course. One is an attainable V8-powered sports coupe and the other is a six-figure, temperamental supercar. But the overlap is real, and at the center of it is this: The 2009 Ford/Lamborghini Tractorri.

If this car looks familiar to you, that’s because it debuted at the 2009 SEMA show and set the benchmark for wild customs there ever since. This week, it goes under the gavel at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction with no reserve. So will this be the deal of a lifetime, or will it fetch supercar prices?

The 2009 Ford/Lamborghini Tractorri

Legendary Tractorri

A decade or so ago, the builder of the Tractorri started out with a 2007 Mustang. Then, they completely re-fabricated the body, crammed the Lambo’s mid-mounted V10, E-Gear transmission, and all-wheel drive system underneath. And they transferred all its dashboard and electronic bits over. Some $700k in labor later, they called it a day.

In short, the Tractorri is the ultimate business-in-the-front-party-in-the-back machine. From the front and sides, it looks like a custom Shelby. But from the back, it’s unmistakably Lambo. And while this Italian-American is mostly from the old world (it can be serviced at any Lamborghini dealership), there are still plenty of Ford touches left. The center console is amazingly stock, and those wide white racing stripes look all Mustang. And of course, the Tractorri name is a nod to the fact that Lamborghini started out as a tractor builder. And, presumably, that supercar purists wrongly see the Mustang as an unrefined machine.

So now the question is this: Will this former SEMA star fetch supercar prices at Barrett-Jackson? Honestly, given the car’s build quality and notoriety, we’d be shocked if it didn’t. There are a lot of cars you could buy with a six-figure purse at Scottsdale, but none of them have the story or the cool factor that the Tractorri has. Here’s hoping that the next owner isn’t afraid to drive the hell out of it.
