Ford Brings America’s Hottest Pony Cars to Detroit
America’s #1 Sports Car Made Its Mighty Presence Known at Home in Detroit!
The press preview of NAIAS 2017 (North American International Auto Show) is officially over. But The Mustang Source was on-site to bring you the hottest pony cars on display from the Blue Oval.
Ford rocked the world when they announced their plans to build a hybrid Mustang in the near future. With such a bombshell dropping just days prior to the auto show, the Mustang waters were relatively calm during the press preview. But just because there wasn’t any news for the 2018 Mustang, it doesn’t mean the show floor was stale.
In the company of the LeMans class-winning Ford GT and the production-ready model, four different Mustangs were exhibited at NAIAS 2017. The already iconic Shelby Mustang GT350 made its evil presence known at the forefront of Ford’s massive display. Toward the back, an EcoBoost-powered convertible Mustang, a 5.0 GT Fastback, and another very special model adorned the high-tech stage.

The GT350 surely caught the eye of the world’s press, but it was the P51 Mustang by ROUSH that stole the show. This sleek and stealthy custom build triggered instant gasps from passerbys, who snapped plenty of photos. The metallic but semi-gloss paint was unlike any we’ve ever seen. And the matte green wheels certainly stood out. In addition, the carbon fiber front diffuser and rear spoiler were on-point.
Among the Mustangs were several key items Ford was proud to show off, especially as their booth sat directly across from Chevrolet’s. One of those items was a full-size V8 Voodoo engine on a pedestal. Another was a carbon fiber wheel cut-out. Inside the cut-out of the award-winning wheel (for technology) sat a massive Brembo brake caliper and rotor.
VLF Automotive, a joint venture between Henrik Fisker and Galpin Auto Sports, brought a cool-looking but heavily “used-and-abused” Fisker Rocket. The wild Mustang design and other unorthodox creations sat in a dark booth away from the rest of the action.
All-in-all, NAIAS 2017 brought the very best Ford currently has to offer. If you’re in the area, the show is open to the public from January 14 until the 22nd. Don’t forget to share your photos with us if you stop by!
